Costco, Sam's Club and Walmart all have a need to communicate via email with their customer bases about ongoing retail promotions. The objective for each email is to communicate the value proposition of the discount promotion as well as the Home Video Transfer Service process. These emails are a part of a regular sales and marketing cycle for each company.
In the case of direct marketing emails, my design approach is to marry the primary value proposition with the company branding and/or promotional campaign look and feel. I also emphasize the call-to-action image, which in the case of all the above samples is to click the button in order to get a coupon or learn more. (I carry the learnings from my work on the CNET/Download.com banner project, it really seems you almost can't make a button too large.)
For the actual execution, I completed all the design and layout in Photoshop, and communicated with a web developer to code and implement into an email deployment system.
